1962 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia Camper (2212 / T1)

In 1962, Westfalia produced its first camper van based on a VW bus, featuring light-colored plastic furniture. The Westfalia SO 34 was exported to America in large numbers. The SO 42, which already featured insulation but lacked the pop-top roof that would later become a Westfalia staple, was also successful in the USA. The interior consisted of paneling, a roof storage box, a refrigerator with a water tank, a hand pump, and a side-mounted folding table, a wardrobe with a mirror, and a storage box with cushions and a folding table. The pop-top roofs that soon became standard provided standing room in the kitchen. The vehicles converted by Westfalia conveyed a previously unimaginable sense of freedom and independence.
