The prototype was developed by a team of engineers led by Giotto Bizzarrini. There is a discrepancy concerning the the chassis number on which it was built. So, Giotto Bizzarrini in his interviews remembered that the work was done on an outdated chassis #0523GT from the Ferrari 250 GT Boano Coupe '1956, but factory records show that the prototype was built on the modern at that time, chassis #1791GT from Ferrari 250 GT Passo Corto Berlinetta Competizione.
